"and endurance produces character..." Romans 5:4

Dear trials,

I knew you were a tool in my Master's hand.

I knew God was producing.

I just did not see where I was lacking. Needing character.

I still do not see. But, that's all right, because my Father does.

Sincerely,

Grateful receiver

My sweet son is very likely to come home from the hospital (again) in the coming week. For my family, this time apart has given us all an opportunity for refreshment.

For me, a time to reflect. To accept.

His diagnosis has changed and we are learning more. He has what is termed, "schizoaffective disorder". A more severe form of schizophrenia.

We tend to be hush, hush about mental illness. Not sure why we do it, we all do. And there is a tendency to over diagnose mental disorders in the United States.

Yet, there are those who suffer in a very real category of its own. Like my son. It is real. It is a disease. And for that reason, I write.

You see, before our long journey began with our son, I had little compassion for those who were afflicted this way. I had only categories and misconceptions.

Only, I didn't know it.

Trials produce, God produces, compassion that is lacking. Only God can create beauty from hard, craggy stones.

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,

and whose sins are covered;

blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.” Romans 4:7~8

This sinner can rejoice, though I am lacking, He covers me through His Son Jesus Christ!! And as I am covered, He produces.
