Facing the Wind

Spent the afternoon at the capitol. While waiting in the lobby today, I spied this statue atop our capitol dome. I asked the security guard about it as I noticed it was swiveling back and forth. To my surprise I learned that she's a weathervane.

He told me that she faces the direction the wind is blowing.

How appropriate. Because that is exactly how I felt today, small and facing a strong wind.
How do you convince people to care about the severely mentally ill? Those who have no insight. Going against the winds of hundreds of years of neglectful treatment and research?

How do you tell people about the families you've met who are suffering with unthinkable burdens when everyone believes in scary movies instead? How do you convince people who tell you that there are charities out there who will help...that there's actually none to be found?

How do you keep your soul from cynicism and defeat when you are facing the wind?

You look to the One who holds the wind...you wait. You keep pushing, but you wait. And you remember that He loved you first, and His heart is kind. And He loves the orphans and the widows, the homeless and the prisoners, the thieves and the murderers...yes, He went out with the thieves. On that cross. He loves the mentally ill and He sees. So you humble your heart and you trust Him again. Because He went on the cross, for you. And you count it an honor to love on the path He loved, though you could never...you share just a taste...because His love is better, better than all.

"Is such the fast that I choose,

a day for a person to humble himself?

Is it to bow down his head like a reed,

and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him?

Will you call this a fast,

and a day acceptable to the Lord?

“Is not this the fast that I choose:

to loose the bonds of wickedness,

to undo the straps of the yoke,

to let the oppressed go free,

and to break every yoke?

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry

and bring the homeless poor into your house;

when you see the naked, to cover him,

and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Then shall your light break forth like the dawn,

and your healing shall spring up speedily;

your righteousness shall go before you;

the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard." ~ Isaiah 58:5~8

Though this world goes "whichever way the wind blows", we have an anchor which holds us steady, walking in the truth. I am so glad you are standing firm in the Lord, and He is holding you securely.
