grateful for good days

It's funny how it's become easier to look for things to be grateful for in the difficult days and how I can forget to stop and thank God for the good days. Part of that is I can subtley become less dependent on God, but it can also have a "bragadocious" feel when you spout off all of the "good" things in your life. And since I'm learning to not be ruled by my ever changing, intense feelings, I need to realize that it's not really bragging at all. It is humility to acknowledge the One from whom all good gifts flow...

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."

(James 1:17 ESV)

And so I thank him for the good days. Because He doesn't change. He is good and no respector of persons. He is wise. He is loving. He gives rest and relief.

Days of clarity of mind for my son. Mercy in the mess, even with medicine shortages, He provides. Weekends spent together. Laughter and singing. And God's Word. His precious Word that brings peace and hope, tells us the truth we can hold on to.

Goodwill stores with 50% off sales, homemade popcorn, sleeping in on Saturdays, cell phones, Netflix, friends and church on Sunday mornings...every perfect gift...all pointing to the best gift of all...

"Soul, then know thy full salvation
Rise o’er sin and fear and care
Joy to find in every station,
Something still to do or bear.
Think what Spirit dwells within thee,
Think what Father’s smiles are thine,
Think that Jesus died to win thee,
Child of heaven, canst thou repine." ~ Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken
