Antique Summer
A successful purveyor of vintage linens on ebay once gave me this little nugget of advice: "Don't give up. So many of my friends start a business then give up when things get a little tight. Keep going." So, now that summer in the desert is upon us, and all of the "snow birds" have flown home, I'm rehearsing that mantra in my head. Not because my antique booth is doing poorly, God has been strikingly faithful. But because I am tempted to look too far ahead, to have larger than life expectations.
God has been so good and I want to continue to trust in Him. To not get ahead of Him, but to follow His leading.
I am so thankful for His provisions. The biggest hit has been the Apple "Fransiscan Ware" set. Thanks to my dad's inquiry as to what was in those boxes in the back of one woman's garage...we were blessed. I've since learned that these particular dishes, made in the U.S.A., are highly desirable. God's leading, all the way.
A large part of buying and selling antiques is simply an education. One yard sale, in a barn, I spyed these Borden milk crates. They weren't even for sale and the owner teased me. Turns out they are quite collectible. Not to mention that my grandfather worked for Borden's many years ago. Grace upon grace.
A few sales yielded some wonderful vintage luggage. I've kept one piece and have had to let the rest go (like this one I temporarily used for devotional books), reluctantly. This is the dilemma of buying antiques that you like! It's fun to enjoy them, but off they go!!
God has been so faithful, and I know He will not ever change. Thank you Father for your provision. I'll continue to trust Him throughout the Summer and beyond...by His grace.
