Spent the weekend up north celebrating 28 years of marriage to my best friend. I do not deserve this man and I know it. He cooks dinner for me and takes me "picking". Even on our anniversary, at his insistance.

So what do I do when we get to our first yard sale? Lurk across the street. Oh how I wanted to climb this fence!

I was strongly deterred by this sign and the fact that my brother is a police officer in this town.

After hitting a string of thrift stores we happened upon a "Flea Market" in the parking lot of an established antique store. The thing about antique stores up north in the summer time is that the prices are fairly high. But the parking lot? Mwaa, ha, ha. No price tags? Fair game!
The trick on a limited budget is to quickly scan the treasures and find the best possible pick for your money. Especially if you're reselling. Finding these old Pepsi and Coca~Cola crates filled with dozens of vintage bottles (some 100 years old) was a sweet deal! It's a dead give away when my heart is beating quickly and I have to hide my enthusiasm from the seller when she threw out her price (must be some sort of inner sensor?).

Now here's where the lurking payed off. After my husband confiscated the old bottles into the truck (in a very dignified manner of course), I took a little walk around the back lot. Rust, dirt, rotting wood ~ oh yes! Stacks and stacks of windows and doors.

(yes, those are my sons' blue jeans hanging from the line) After explaining to my perplexed husband that buying old windows was really a good thing. Really. He made more room in the truck and we drove ever so carefully home.
The problem now is that I need to get them to my store. Fast. Ideas are bombarding my brain for using these windows in my home...chalk boards, painting my "Bette's Bungalow" logo on them & nailing chains on the back, hanging them up the stair case...somebody stop me!

And the dried up old paint! The color!

Happy Anniversary baby. Thank you for a wonderful getaway, weekend. You are my most precious treasure.
