The Valley

"When You lead me to the valley of vision
I can see You in the heights
And though my humbling wouldn’t be my decision
It’s here Your glory shines so bright
So let me learn that the cross precedes the crown
To be low is to be high
That the valley’s where You make me more like Christ" ~ Bob Kauflin, "The Valley"

In 2008, after just purchasing our new home, my husband's employer went out of business. Along with a multitude of other Americans, little did we know that we were at the beginning of a new normal. Upon failing to secure employment, we had to let our house go after sweat soaked sleepless nights, heated discussions and desperate prayers.

Yet, we made it. We lived despite my outrageous, exaggerated fears. And God showed me it was simply a house, after all.

For the past 3 years we have been renting a nice home in Gilbert. Hardly suffering (it's Gilbert for crying out loud!) and learning about what really matters.

At the end of March we learned that our landlord wanted to put our home we were renting on the market. At the same time, a member of my family approached us about a "proposal" they wanted to share with us. They had no idea that we needed to be out of our home by May 1.

The amazing thing? Their proposal was for us to purchase their home, at a significant loss to them. They wanted to move out by May 1 as well, to a town they were desiring to live.

Long story short: it happened. We are living in my sister and brother in law's home. And they are living in their dream city.

I can not convey enough how grateful we are to them. We couldn't talk them out of doing this, we tried.

So we receive the gift. With thankful and stupefied hearts. Who would do this sort of thing unless they were living for another kingdom? A heavenly, eternal one. "But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city." ~ Hebrews 11:16

As for the Valley we've been in? Thanks and glory be to God for every bit of it!
