Stability
It's been over a year since my parents and I stood on the shoreline in New Jersey just before hurricane "Sandy". If ever there was a clearer and sobering illustration regarding Jesus' warning to not build your house on the sand, I cannot think of one personally. After visiting my great grandparent's bungalows, days later these homes were washed out to sea.
As I think about this today and trials continue to ebb and flow like the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, I fight to stand on the rock of Christ and not the sand of my works, my circumstances, graces, man's opinions, and the swellings of my ever changing emotions.
So I will let Mr. Thomas Wilcox speak to me today from "Honey out of the Rock"...
"In Believing, what you first look at, you expect stability from, and make the foundation of your hope. Go to Christ in sight of your sin and misery, not of your grace and holiness. Have nothing to do with your graces and sanctification, - they will but veil Christ, - till you have seen Him first. He that looks upon Christ through this own graces, is like one that sees the sun in water, which wavers and moves as the water does. Look upon Christ only as shining in the firmament of the Father's love and grace, - then you will see Him in His own glory, which is unspeakable. That will comfort you."
