The Thread
Something is slowly occurring to me (I mentioned my dullness before). In this tumultuous sea of emotional ups and downs in caring for my son, I am tempted to look in so many places for stability. Like a little girl holding her father's hand as they walk through a carnival, my eyes are tempted with all of the sites and smells. With the offers of adventure and prizes everywhere I turn. Yet my father's hand won't let me go. And there's a common thread emerging that keeps me focused.
The thread of His Word.
When I discipline myself to keep reading the bible, looking for Christ on every page, the Rock of ages emerges onto the scene. And I see Him there holding my hand, my feet. Keeping me steady. Oh, he's never left me, I'm just so distracted by worldy comforts and false promises. Like the man at the game booth, hearkening me to spend my money to win a glistening prize...my heart and mind are tempted. Tempted to seek temporary, unsteady "rocks".
So the thread of His word, keeps weaving in and out, all around. Sewing the big picture. The picture I need to see. The picture that holds everything together. Christ, my Rock.
This precious treasure of truth, the bible. Whispering Christ's name..."everything concerning Him".
Oh keep this dull, foolish girl, Dear Rock of Ages. Be the thread every day. On every page, let me see You. Until I really see You face to face.
"No, the Bible isn't a book of rules or a book of heroes. The Bible is most of all a story. It's an adventure story about a young hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure. It's a love story about a brave prince who leaves his palace, his throne, everything...to rescue the one he loves. It is like the most wonderful of fairy tales that has come true in real life.
You see, the best thing about this story is, it's true. There are lots of stories in the Bible, but all the stories are telling one big story. The story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them. It takes the whole Bible to tell this story and at the center of the story...there's a baby. Every story in the Bible whispers his name. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle, the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together and suddenly you can see a beautiful picture."
